A Balanced Pressure Proportioner is a foam proportioning device used in fixed foam systems to accurately mix foam concentrate into a water supply. It comprises a top balancing valve and a lower proportioning body that ensures foam and water pressures are balanced so the foam concentrate is inducted at the correct ratio regardless of fluctuations in pump pressure. The unit is manufactured with corrosion‑resistant materials like bronze and stainless steel for durability and long‑term use.
The proportioner works by first equalising the water and foam concentrate pressures at the balancing valve so that proportioning is independent of foam pump pressure. The main body then uses a variable mechanism to maintain accurate mixing over a wide flow range, typically capable of proportioning across a 1:10 ratio between minimum and maximum flows. For accurate operation, the foam concentrate pressure should be slightly higher than the water pressure
Balanced Pressure Proportioners provide accurate variable foam proportioning over a wide flow range and help the system maintain the correct foam mix even when water or foam pressure changes. Their corrosion‑resistant construction makes them suitable for harsh, long‑term use, including marine environments. By balancing pressures, they ensure foam induction remains consistent and reliable across different operating conditions.
Balanced Pressure Proportioners are suited for fixed foam systems where foam concentrate is stored separately, such as systems using foam pumps or bladder tanks, especially when the foam supply is physically distant from the mixer. They are commonly used in marine, industrial and fixed fire suppression installations where reliable foam proportioning is critical
